Milan

The second part of our tour took us to dazzling Milan, Italy, where we all enjoyed a terrific time and terrific food

We arrived in Milan close to lunch time. Needless to say we dropped our bags and found the first pizza place we could. Our sever seemed confused when we initially asked for only three pizzas (we were thinking that between the five of us, three pizzas should be plenty), so we ended up ordering five pizzas. Good thing, too! Pizzas aren’t served “American-sized” and we devoured every last slice of pizza on our table. It was the most delicious.

Our group arrived at Milan's central train station in the early afternoon. Typically, when arriving in a new city, it takes a cab ride, metro change, tram map, city bus nightmare, blocks of walking to get into the heart of the city where we enjoy to be. Not this time! We had a wonderful hotel right near the train station and just a hop-skip from the most important part of our trip - shopping, of course.

After reveling in delicious Italian pizza, a few of us went out in search of a place or two to spend money. I’m sure it would be a great surprise to hear that there wasn’t much trouble finding what we were looking for. The weather was perfect and we had a lovely afternoon meandering through the city shops of Milan... we even managed to pick up a few things here and there.

That evening we once again went out in search of a local eatery. An hour and half later we all stumbled back to our hotel full of delicious calzones, pasta, and pizza. The food in Milan is just too delicious.

The next day after a little more retail recreation we visited the Duomo. It really is beyond words. The Duomo took over a hundred years to build and has over 3,500 carvings on its exterior. It was a incredible feat of architecture and unforgettable piece of art and history.

We only had a few days in Milan, but I had the loveliest time. I was so glad to be back home in Germany after this trip, too. And if anyone is ever in need of some 'retail therapy' ... pack your bags! We're going to Milan.
