The Search

If you’re not looking for a book with enough intrigue to keep you reading, enough dreamy forests to keep you enchanted, and enough puppies to keep you aww-ing, then move right along; this book isn’t for you.

Nora Roberts opens this book introducing us to our leading lady, Fiona Bristow, by way of a missing child. Fiona, a K-9 search and rescue specialist and dog trainer, is enamoring from the start, saving a young boy who had wandered off into the woods of the Pacific North West, where she lives.

Diving deeper into her backstory, we learn that Fiona’s past was filled with one misfortune after another, including an attempted murder as well as the murder of her fiance. These and other hardships, however, led her to her passion of dog training and her commitment to her search and rescue squad.

Just as she is feeling comfortable and contented in her life and routine, a young man, new to her quiet town, drops in with a new puppy to train. This turns Fiona’s world, much to her own chagrin, on its ear. At the same time, events from her past seem to be coming back to haunt her. The way that Robert’s juxtaposes an emerging love story with fear and danger is captivating. Will she fall in love? If she does, who is lurking around the next corner?

I am usually a turn-the-pages-myself kind of girl, but this is a book I began listening to on my own as my monthly Audible book on the way to and from work. If you haven’t checked out Audible, where have you been? And if you haven’t checked out Overdrive, check that out as well.

This book will make you want to fix a warm drink and curl up under a blanket with it’s chilly PNW vibes. If you’re looking for a fun read for the holidays that isn’t too heavy, this is a great candidate.
